Error 212 - user maximum reached

Post by MatthijsJongboer »

Because of a change in the Codemeter Licensing software, errors can occur causing a fail to correctly start the INCONTROL software.

The reason for this is that the station share functionality for the license has changed.
With CodeMeter version 7.20 the determination of the Station Share ID under Windows was changed. Thus, starting from March 1, 2021, versions of INCONTROL Software (e.g. ED10.4, PD4.0), use the new determination of the Station Share ID.
If previous versions of INCONTROL software with multiple checks for the same product code are run on the same CodeMeter license server with applications encrypted with the new versions of the INCONTROL software, they do not share the same license.

This means:
When you have installed INCONTROL software that was created after 1-3-2021, you have the latest version of Codemeter (version 7.20 or higher). This is also the case if you use other software that has Codemeter version 7.20 or higher included.

If you have Codemeter Runtime 7.20 or higher the following could apply for you:
  1. You cannot run multiple instances of commercial products from different versions (pre and post CM7.20) simultaneously on the same license server.
For example PD3.3 and PD4.0 simultaneously. The last execution try will display a start error with failure reason: "The user maximum of the Codemeter license is reached, Error 212.". You can request a solution to this error from INCONTROL support.
  2. You cannot run pre 7.20 commercial products that have multiple calls to a single product code.
For example Friso has multiple calls to a single product code. Execution will display a start error with failure reason: "The user maximum of the Codemeter license is reached, Error 212.".
Also older products (e.g. PD pre 3.1 or ED pre 10.1) can suffer from this problem. In that case a ribbon without buttons is displayed. You can request a solution to this error from INCONTROL support.
  3. You cannot run pre 7.20 free products.
For example, you cannot install PD Trial 4.0 and then PD Trial 3.3. Execution of PD Trial 3.3 will display a start error with failure reason: "The user maximum of the Codemeter license is reached, Error 212.".
Because this situation is thinkable, INCONTROL development has prepared new executables only for the last pre 7.20 free products.
If you have one of the products listed below and receive the mentioned error message, leave your installation intact and just download and replace the proper .exe file:
